Unchangeable God

I turned 25 yesterday.... twenty-five?!

I can hardly believe it! I remember turning 15 like it was yesterday, when in actual fact it was 10 years ago!

I bet you’ve felt like that too. Like, one day you blink and 5 years have gone by... and then another 5, and another 5.

I think what used to scare me is that if you’re not careful life can just pass you by in a blink of an eye. But then that also got me thinking about how big God is. He doesn’t have a start, and he doesn’t have an end. It says in the bible that a 1000 years is like a day to God!

I once read a book called “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan. It’s a really good book about God’s amazing love for us, but there was a section in it that really put into perspective how big God is in comparison to us.

I’m going to paraphrase here, but Francis tells us to imagine that our lives are a movie... now if you were to make a movie about your life you would think you’d be the main character, right? But Francis actually says no, if you were to make a movie about your life, the main character should be God... you should just be the extra.

And that really hit home to me. How often do we blow things out of proportion in our lives? How often do we put ourselves and our feelings before others? How often do we get wound up about things that, in the grand scheme of life, are quite small?

How often do we make ourselves the main characters of this story we call life and make God the extra?

I’ve done that so many times over the past 10 years and have had to consciously remind myself that this little, fleeting life I am living should not be about me... it should be wholly, and completely for Him. And He is so good to us that He lets us enjoy the time we have on this earth. Of course, there will be times of trouble and struggles... Jesus said there would be:

John 16 33 says: “...In this world you will have trouble...”

But thank the Lord that verse doesn’t end there.

The second part says this:

...But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Wow! The God we serve has overcame the world!

We are saved through Jesus and Jesus alone. Nothing that we can ever do can save us - this life is a gift from Him and we should use every precious minute to thank Him and serve Him in return.

So much has changed for me in the last 10 years. I’ve moved house, got a degree, got a new job, got married, moved again...But God... He has not changed. Not in the last 10 years - and not in the last 10,000 years! He is unchangeable throughout the ages.

So here I am, not 25. I feel like I’m going to blink and another 25 years will have came and gone. Our time on earth can sometimes feel so quick, so let’s not waste another minute without having God as our main character.

He is so good, so unchanging, and with us until the end of time.
